Almost two weeks after Callie quit Comfrey’s service, she found a new position as a bowracer with the younger son of the margrave of Endonbury. She and Anthser celebrated with three successive games of Leap and Fall at one of the local greatcat clubs. At the end of the evening, Anthser asked her, “So you don’t have to work Ascension night, right?”

“Naw, his lordship’ll be out partying or something. Nobody bowraces on Ascension.”

Anthser purred. “Come to the GA’s Ascension party with me, then? Ascension’s kind of a big deal in Gracehaven. And this year should be really good.”

“I noticed.” Callie purred in return and nuzzled his neck. “And I’d love to.”

Maybe there was no long-term future for them, but the short-term looked mighty fine.
